Clare Wakefield

Clare at workClare has a first class honours degree in Ceramic art from Cardiff University. She creates beautiful organic forms inspired by the natural world. They are powerful and distinctive and yet have a fragile, delicate feel. Clare observes detailing from the smallest feature to the overall beauty found in sea, sky and landscape, and creates a natural and unforced feel in her work. The sea has the greatest influence on her current work for which  Clare is using muted, gentle greens and satin white.

The two piece sculptures are coiled earthstone, the pods are a mixture of pinch pots and pulled clay. The dish shaped pieces are slabbed, sometimes thrown and then sculpted.

Biscuit fired to 1000°C, then sprayed with barium glaze, satin white glaze and sometimes additions of oxides. The work is fired to 1200°C in a top loading electric kiln.
