Colin Ruffell

Colin was born in 1939, then he was bombed, evacuated, educated, expelled, repatriated, married, bred, qualified and taught; until in 1965, aged 26, he became a professional artist.

Colin qualified from two Art Colleges in painting, design and printmaking and the Open University in psychology and aesthetics. He has been a pioneer of changing techniques for artists. His enthusiasm led The Fine Art Trade Guild to elect him firstly as a Court Member, then Chair of The Guilds Printers and Publishers Committee and more recently the position of Master, where he is involved in setting worldwide standards for the fine art publishing industry.

Colin claims that he paints in explosive bursts, necessarily punctuated by long spells of getting ready or recovery from the last effort.

Colin's portfolio of London paintings is extensive, having painted the City from most aspects. This is clearly where his heart lies. These prints are available either on paper or canvas and in a variety of sizes. The images below represent a very small selection of his portfolio, please visit or contact the gallery to see the complete collection.

The collection of Venice scenes is inspired by a recent visit. His bold use of colour captures the atmosphere and emotions this city famously evokes.
