Huguette Declercq

HuguetteHuguette has been drawing all her life, even before she could write. “Drawing and painting is like breathing to me” she remarks, though she had never told herself: “I am going to be a painter.” She just painted. Huguette’s parents were both descendants from artistic families. As a formal training, she entered the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Kortrijk at the age of 19, and took classes in fashion design, figurative arts, sculpture and moulding, etching and monumental arts. She was awarded the gold medal for fashion design and figurative arts.

Apart from many private collections in Belgium and abroad, work by Huguette Declercq can be found the art collection of the Belgian government and the Municipal Museum of Kortrijk.
