Nick Andrew
Nick Andrew studied Art and Graphic Design in Oxford, London and Cheltenham. He has exhibited widely, throughout the UK, mainland Europe, and the USA; and has work in many public and private collections including: Hampshire County Council, The Royal London Hospital, Weetabix plc and Scottish Equitable. His studio is in part of a watermill on the upper reaches of the River Wylye in South Wiltshire, where he lives with his wife, Kate and their young daughter.
He describes his work as follows : “I am very interested in the idea of painting as inquiry. I’m particularly drawn to quiet, intimate and secluded places and have spent much of the past decade getting to know my immediate landscape, which includes a stretch of the River Wylye, along with adjacent water- meadows and nearby forest.
I look for patterns in the river flow, multi- layering and reflectivity; also the textures, contrasts and depths in the forest; and the movement, rhythms and colour of field grasses and plant life. I would like to think that I convey through my paintings a sense of tranquillity and ‘solitary involvement’ with the landscape.”
