Nick Muir
Nick Muir was trained at Epsom School of Art & Design in the mid 1970's. His tutors included Bruce McLean with whom he made a short film. It was Bruce's energy, enthusiasm and encouragement that ensured that Nick continued pursuing with his schooling despite being disillusioned with the hands-off "free thinking" approach to art training that was the favoured approach during the seventies.
Nick rebelled against this method, in favour of the teaching of more traditional skills such as painting and drawing and saw life drawing included on the curriculum after organising a petition which gained the signatures of most of his contemporaries.
After a 20+ year career in sales and marketing, Nick opened his first art gallery (an artists co-operative) in Greenwich in 1998. He opened “Inspirations Contemporary Art” in Petts Wood in 2002. He still firmly believes in the core skills and this is evident in his choice of art and applied art on display.
